Intelligent Knife Helps Surgeons Sniffs Out Cancer Cells

Hospitals in London are testing a smoking knife which analyzes the smoke caused as the surgeon cuts the patients tissue and can instantly signal if the tissue is cancerous or healthy.

Normally the suspected tissue is removed and sent to the lab for testing and the results may take between 10 to 30 minutes. The new intelligent knife is connected by a tube to a monitor and amylases the smoke as the surgeons cuts in real time. The results are then displayed; red indicates cancer, green healthy tissue, and yellow unidentified.
The intelligent knife not only will be a time saver but will also help surgeons to remove the right amount of tissue.
